TeamVodafone’s Craig Lowndes has been handed a $10,000 fine following a post-race celebration burnout after today’s race at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway.
While most of the attention was on Shane van Gisbergen’s ‘drifting’ burnout, Lowndes also lit-up his rear – this is in contravention of the post-race arrangements.
Lowndes, who finished second in Race 13 today, said that he was “shocked” to hear of the fine.
“I was shocked and even more shocked to find out it was a 10 grand fine,” Lowndes told BigPond Sport post-race.
“He (Investigating Officer Peter Wollerman) guarantees me that for the next offence it will be more.
“At driver’s briefing they said the winner of the day can do it after Turn 1 but not after Turn 14, the last turn.
“I didn’t think it was that big of an issue but at the moment they are on the war path with burn outs.”
Team owner Roland Dane declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Speedcafe.com.
