Warren Luff will start from pole position for this afternoon’s opening race of the Carrera Cup at Sandown after an at times dramatic qualifying session.
After setting the benchmark time in the previous two practice sessions, Luff once again set the standard in qualifying while championship rivals Steven Richards and Craig Baird both went off the track while chasing a fast time.
Baird was able to rejoin the track at Dandenong Road Corner, while Richards ended the session deep in the sand on the same bend.
Luff will share the front row with Michael Patrizi, who also overcooked things and locked a front wheel on one of his flying laps.
Richards will start from the second row alongside Shae Davies, while Baird will take the green light from sixth.
Tony Bates was quickest of the Elite runners ahead of class points leader Stephen Grove and Ash Samadi.
Luff, Richards and Baird will be busy this afternoon as they will take part in the V8 co-drivers race and will then jump aboard their Carrera Cup entries moments after finishing that race.
