Marc Marquez produced another stunning ride to fend off reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo and win the Grand Prix of Aragon.
The rookie sensation recovered from a mistake to haul in and pass Lorenzo en route to recording his sixth win of his debut season.
The victory extended Marquez’s championship lead to 39 points.
Yamaha’s Lorenzo led the majority of the race and tried everything to deny Marquez victory but he eventually had to settle for second.
A four bike fight for third ended with Valentino Rossi claiming the final podium position, while a crash for Marquez’s team-mate Dani Pedrosa all but ended his title hopes.
Lorenzo managed to get the jump at the start and he threatened to surge into the distance.
However, the Hondas of Marquez and Pedrosa slotted into second and third and they quickly set about reeling in the leader.
Rossi held fourth but he had Stefan Bradl, Alvaro Bautista and Cal Crutchlow in hot pursuit.
Pedrosa soon established himself as the fastest man on the track with a string of fast laps and he soon dived past Marquez for second. He then set his sights on Lorenzo as the lead lead trio pulled away from the rest of the field.
Just minutes later the complexion of the race changed as Marquez ran wide in turn 12 and appeared to brush Pedrosa, who then suffered a high side seconds later. It left the Spaniard requiring a visit to the medical centre. Luckily he was cleared of any serious injury.
The mistake from Marquez and crash for Pedrosa allowed Lorenzo to gallop into a 2s lead. But he was unable to relax as Marquez quickly regained his rhythm and took huge chunks out of hi lead.
Meanwhile further down the field the four bike battle for third raged with Bautista bursting through into fourth and on the heels of Rossi.
At the front, Marquez continued to reel in Lorenzo before diving past his fellow countryman with 10 laps remaining.
The Yamaha rider tried to fightback and an almighty battle for the victory loomed. But the Honda rookie remained calm under the pressure and cruised to the chequered flag.
Australia’s Bryan Staring finished in 18th position while Damian Cudlin retired with gearbox issues.
