James McFadden has created history on the opening night of the two night Grand Final of World Series Sprintcars by winning his maiden World Series crown, whilst Queenslander, Cameron Gessner took out the preliminary event.
McFadden – at 21 years of age – is the youngest World Series Sprintcars Champion in the Series’ history – however under the series’ antiquated rules, he is ineligible for the Champion’s winner’s purse due to the fact that the Totally Workwear-backed team is not contracted to the Series. The Champion’s cheque instead will go to either Jason Johnson or Brooke Tatnell, who are fighting out second in the Series.
Tatnell’s late flurry has seen him just 100 points adrift of Johnson with a night of competition to go.
In the Preliminary Main, David Priolo was the long time race leader, however blew a right rear tyre, spinning to the infield, allowing Gessner to assume the lead. Steven Lines in the locally prepared Monster Energy Drinks machine charged at Gessner, but was unable to do anything about the lanky Queenslander.
Brooke Tatnell fought forward to claim third placing ahead of Shaun Bradford and the Orrcon Steel Eastcoast Pipelines Maxim of Robbie Farr.
