McLaren has unveiled its MP4-29 which it hopes will return the team to the front of the field this year.
The Woking-based outfit is the first team to completely uncover its 2014 car, which will be driven by Jenson Button and new recruit Kevin Magnussen, who replaces the outgoing Sergio Perez.
The MP4-29 features a controversial new low nose design which is likely to be a main feature among the 2014 machines, as they follow the new FIA guidelines for this year.
Williams and Lotus have both revealed similar protruding noses in the renderings released of their 2014 cars this week.
The new McLaren was launched in a silver livery without any sponsors or branding.
The team have not made any official announcement regarding the title sponsor for the coming season, nor clear up ongoing questions over its management structure.
The MP4-29 will be powered by a 1.6 litre turbo charged V6 Mercedes engine and eight speed gearbox as the sport switches from V8 units.
McLaren will end its association with Mercedes at the end of the year, with Honda powering the squad from 2015.
The team will have high hopes for the new season following a dismal 2013 campaign that ended with drivers Button and Perez failing to record a podium finish.
“We’ve made no secret of our disappointment at how the 2013 season turned out,” said sporting director Sam Michael.
“The aim now is to get back to winning – that’s what McLaren exists to do – but there’s a certain amount of growth and regrowth that needs to take place before we return to a position where we can challenge for the world championship.
“The good thing is that we’ve acknowledged that, and we’ve actually been working towards that goal for many months now.
“We have Honda waiting in the wings, we have a number of key technical staff bolstering our existing design and engineering teams, and we are fostering the careers of our young drivers, all of whom have an incredible amount of potential.
“For 2014, our aim is for continuous development; we’ll be refining and strengthening the car and the organisation throughout the year, so you’ll see a rapid turnover of parts and ideas on the car as we, like every team, wrestle with the many unique challenges of these new regulations.”
McLaren will roll out the new car competitively for the first time at the opening pre-season test at Jerez, which begins on Monday.
