Australian automotive goliath Supercheap Auto has renewed its naming rights deal with Scott McLaughlin's New Zealand V8 SuperTourer operation.
Supercheap has signed a new two-year term to be the primary backer of McLaughlin's Holden in the championship which enters its third season in 2014.
“It's great to continue our relationship with such a successful and well recognised brand,” McLaughlin said.
The star driver won the inaugural V8 SuperTourer championship in 2012 but rode through a difficult season this year.
“The team at Supercheap Auto are a great bunch of people who are as passionate about motorsport as their customers. Racing is what I live for, so it's a perfect fit.' McLaughlin said, who has been supported by the company since his debut in NZV8's in 2010.
“2013 has been tough, getting caught up in a few silly accidents but I'm confident we can start next year as well as we finished this one, after our round win at the final round in Pukekohe a few weeks ago,” the young racer said.
“My goal is simple – to get the V8ST championship back from Murph!”
David Ajala, managing director of the Super Retail Groups Commercial and Trade Division, said it made sense to re-sign with McLaughlin's one car operation.
“Supercheap Auto has supported Scott since he was 16, we have been more than impressed by his growth, maturity and success both on and off the track,” Ajala said.
McLaughlin stamped himself as one of the hottest properties in V8 Supercars this season with multiple wins in his maiden year in the top grade with the Garry Rogers outfit.
The V8 SuperTourers will kick off its season at the Highlands Motorsport Park complex at Cromwell on the South Island from January 25-26 which will also feature a round of the Toyota Racing Series.
