Rhys McNally on his way to pole

Rhys McNally emerged victorious in the inaugural V8 Utes Armor All pole position shootout at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

Kris Walton had topped the first part of qualifying but a mistake from the former in the new-for-2015 top two shootout gifted the pole to McNally.

Ryal Harris will start the first race of the season from third ahead of George Miedecke.

“It’s my first pole position and what better place to do it then at the first round, full credit to the team they have done a great job with the car and it’s great to repay them will a pole position,” said McNally.

“To be able to participate in something like tomorrow’s race is pretty awesome, the Series is going through a lot of changes at the moment so it’s great to be a part of it.”

Nick Foster set the pace in Porsche Carrera Cup practice with the former single seater driver the only man to lap the Adelaide Parklands circuit in the 1 minute 21s bracket.

Foster emerged a full 0.3876s quicker than reigning champion Steven Richards, while David Russell, who topped the morning session, was third behind the wheel of the Finance EZI backed entry.

Newcomer Matt Campbell was fourth ahead of Nick McBride, five time champion Craig Baird and former Carrera Cup category manager Cameron McConville.

The Stadium Super Trucks provided plenty of entertainment as American Sheldon Creed claimed the first pole position for the series outside of North America.

Creed managed to tame the Adelaide Parklands circuit transformed with a series of jumps, which are a feature of the American championship, by clocking a best time of 1.51.9350s.

The teenager was involved in a three way scrap for pole with series creator Robby Gordon and Keegan Kincaid all enjoying spells at the top of the timesheets.

However, it was a late burst of speed from Creed which saw him pip Kincaid by 0.0180s to pole with Gordon nine tenths further back in third.

Matty Mingay proved to be the best of the Australian contingent in fourth position.

The session was not without incident contributed by the Stadium Super Trucks’ unique handling.

Utes regular Nathan Pretty lost control of his machine at speed on the entry to the Senna chicane before slamming into the wall.

He managed to bring the truck to a halt in safe location avoiding the deployment of the red flags.

Trass Family Motorsport’s Jono Lester punched in an impressive time late on in practice to end the day top of the timesheets in the Australian GT Championship.

The Kiwi saved his best until the dying moments of the 20 minute session with his 1:21.5797s lap 0.6721s quicker than Chris Mies in the JAMEC PEM Racing Audi R8.

Dale Paterson’s Chevrolet Camaro was third ahead of Steve McLaughlan in the sister #75 JAMEC PEM Racing Audi.

John Bowe provided the benchmark time in Touring Car Masters with the former Australian touring car champion topping both practice sessions.

The 2014 Masters Class champion, driving a Ford Mustang, was more than a second quicker than his nearest rival Eddie Abelnica Falcon XB Coupe.

Veteran touring car star Glenn Seton was third fastest in his Ford Mustang Couple on his full-time return to the series.
