The Mercedes F1 Team is poised to announce the exit of its decorated team principal Ross Brawn.
Brawn’s future has been under a cloud since Paddy Lowe was recruited from McLaren at the beginning of the season.
The BBC reports that Mercedes has driven the change from a single team principal to a shared leadership structure of Lowe and existing team executive director Toto Wolff.
Niki Lauda will also continue in the leadership group as a non-executive director.
It is said that Brawn was offered a position to remain at the team but declined.
The 59-year-old is expected to take a break from the sport as he ponders his future.
Brawn is largely credited with masterminding Michael Schumacher’s seven world titles at Benetton and Ferrari.
With Schumcher retiring at the end of 2006, Brawn took a short sabbatical before re-emering with Honda.
The Honda outfit went on to win the 2009 Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles under the BrawnGP banner before being sold to Mercedes at the end of the year.
