Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has confirmed the world championship winning squad will evaluate some “unusual components” at this week’s Formula 1 pre-season test.

The Brackley operation made a strong start to its testing program with Lewis Hamilton ending the opening day at Barcelona second fastest after 156 laps behind the wheel of the new W07.

Mercedes launched its latest F1 offering on Sunday with technical director Paddy Lowe highlighting that the squad will undertake a series of mini revolutions to improve on its all conquering W06.

As part of its bid to extract even more performance from its W07, it is expected a range of unusual items will be fitted to the car in the coming days.

“We are having some bits which are slightly unusual,” said Wolff.

“We are not sure whether they come on the car tomorrow or after tomorrow.

“It depends on the analysis of the data from today was, but certainly some things to look at.

“Certainly when I saw it the first time I was surprised.”

Hamilton will hand over the W07 to team-mate Nico Rosberg when testing resumes later today.
