Andrew Miedecke claimed a first round victory of the season courtesy of a race win and a pair of second places in Round Four of the Touring Car Masters.
Miedecke overtook John Bowe at the second corner in Race 3 and never looked back despite dropping oil. This came before he scythed his way through the field to finish runner-up in the partial reverse grid race earlier in the day.
The Lubrimaxx Camaro driver would most likely have won that race as well but for the late intervention of the Safety Car, shortly after Miedecke had criss-crossed Jim Richards to take second through Turn 1.
John Bowe, who took the honours on Saturday, started the finale from the front row after picking up third earlier in the day. But an error on Miedecke’s oil on lap six saw the Dunlop Super Dealers Mustang drop well off the rear of car #95 and he instead had to protect his position from Keith Kassulke.
Richards endured another frustrating day, managing his Shannons Falcon Sprint to eighth in Race 3 with further mechanical issues after suffering a sticking throttle on Saturday. The touring car great had been set for his second fourth place finish of the day.
Greg Crick was ninth and fifth place respectively in the day’s two races on his way to a ProMasters class podium, a strong showing in his comeback from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Brett Youlden made the best of a front row start to take just his second TCM victory in Race 2 after withstanding early pressure from Richards, but it was Mark King who again took ProAm round honours after Youlden was tagged by Jason Gomersall.
Cameron Mason experienced the wildest moment of the weekend with a high-speed slide off Turn 1, having been spun by Carey McMahon midway through Race 2.
In the end, Bowe extended his series lead in the Pro Masters class ahead of Round Five, the Sandown 100, supporting V8 Supercars’ Sandown 500 from 12-14 September.
