Miles Racing could be the only V8 Supercars Wildcard entrant to compete at both Phillip Island and Bathurst this year.

The two-car Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series team has officially applied for a Wildcard into the two-driver races – the only Fujitsu Series outfit to lodge an entry.

The only other Wildcard that is confirmed at this point is the Shannons Mars Racing entry that will be driven by Grant Denyer and the winner of the Shannons Supercar Showdown.

If Miles Racing is successful in its application, a total of 30 cars will take part in this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

The Miles Racing Wildcard entry is likely to be driven by regular team drivers Chaz Mostert and Ash Walsh, although team principal Wayne Miles says he will not confirm his driver line-up until the application is approved.

The team has applied for dispensation to run an older-model BF Falcon, to be entered under #100.

The V8 Supercars Commission will meet the Thursday before the Queensland Raceway event where Miles Racing’s Wildcard fate could be decided.

“We’ll see how we go, the application is lodged, so it’s up to V8 Supercars now,” Miles told Speedcafe.com.

“We’re ready to go. Hopefully there’s not too many speed bumps on the way. The experience for our team at Bathurst, the track where everyone wants to be at, would be massive.

“We’ll get the approval through first before we finalise our drivers.

“There’s been some interest. The seats are there for the boys (Mostert and Walsh) – that’s why we’ve set this whole thing up. They are the ones with the future in this sport and deserve this chance. That’s why we did the 12 Hour earlier this year.”

If Mostert and Walsh compete in the enduros, it will be their main series debuts, but it will also mean that they’ll miss out on competing in he Fujitsu Series round at Bathurst. Mostert currently sits eighth in the series, while Walsh is 15th.

“Our concentration will be on the main race,” Miles said.

“I think all our efforts will go into the one basket. The boys are there for experience this year, so we won’t do the Fujitsu deal at this point.

“As a team, to run two Fujitsu cars, plus a team in the main race, would be unwise and pretty hard logistically. I think we’d like to concentrate on one or the other.”

Having run Wildcard entries since the concept was introduced in 2009, Matthew White Motorsport and Greg Murphy Racing will both be absent this year. CLICK HERE for yesterday’s news story.

In other Miles Racing news, New Zealander David Knott has been installed as the outfit’s new team manager. He will get his first look at the team at its test this Thursday, where the team will debut a new colour scheme on its two Falcons.
