Australian motorcycle star Jack Miller extended his Moto3 championship lead after coming through a dramatic final lap to claim his third win of the season at Le Mans.

The Red Bull KTM rider was forced to battle hard for the win with eight riders all in contention for the podium places on the final lap.

After securing the lead on a frantic last lap, the Queenslander held firm under pressure to take the chequered flag from Alex Rins and Isaac Vinales.

Miller, who started from third, held the lead briefly at the start before Rins came to the fore.

The Spaniard built a healthy lead before he was reeled in by the chasing pack.

The Aussie teenager kept a watching brief in an eight rider battle for the race before he made his move.

With laps fast running out, he managed to haul himself into contention for the victory by passing two bikes in one move.

He saved his best for the final lap with a tough pass on Efren Vazquez for the lead. The move pushed the polesitter down the field leaving Miller to fend off a hard charging Rins to take the win by 0.095s.

With Vazquez coming home in sixth and title rival Romano Fenati retiring from the race, Miller has opened up a 30 point lead in the championship standings.

The Moto3 series heads to Italy’s Mugello circuit for the sixth round of the championship on June 1.
