Jack Miller will compete in the iconic Suzuka 8 Hours, Honda has announced.

Miller will join three-time Suzuka 8 Hours winner Takumi Takahashi and Moto2 rider Takaaki Nakagami for the 40th running of the race next month.

The race represents a departure from grand prix-specification machinery for Miller, who will be riding the #634 Honda CBR1000RR SP2 for the MuSASHi HARC-PRO team.

“I’m excited to be racing for the first time at the Suzuka 8 Hours race with a highly competitive Honda team, MuSASHi HARC-PRO. Honda.

“Endurance races are different to other road races, and this will be a great opportunity for me.

“I’ll be aiming for the top of the podium, battling a tough race, along with a very talented, competitive team.”

The ride comes in the final year of Miller’s current contact with Honda, with his future beyond 2017 unknown.

Honda has also confirmed that Australian Superbike Championship rider Josh Hook, who already has one FIM Endurance World Championship start to his name this season, will ride the #79 Team SuP Dream Honda CBR1000RR SP2 at Suzuka.

Casey Stoner rode in the race in 2015, breaking his right shoulder blade and left tibia when a jammed throttle saw him flung from his Honda.

The Suzuka 8 Hours, which forms the final round of the FIM Endurance World Championship, will be held from July 28-30.
