Jack Miller says he is ready to seize his chance to secure the Moto3 world championship ahead of this weekend’s title showdown with Alex Marquez at Valencia.
The Townsville teenager heads into the final round of the season with an 11 point deficit in the title race despite securing a win in Australia and a second place finish in the last round at Sepang, Malaysia.
Miller, who will step up to MotoGP’s premier class next season with LCR Honda, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Moto3 this year recording five wins and four podiums.
However, the Queenslander will face a battle to claim the title as he requires to beat Marquez on his rival’s home soil.
In order to scoop the title, Miller will need to take the win with Marquez finishing no higher than fourth.
A podium finish could be enough to steal the crown. If Miller finishes second he will need Marquez to come home in seventh or worse. A third place finish would require Marquez to finish outside of the top 10.
“We must seize this last chance for the title. We’ll see what happens in this very decisive race,” said Miller.
“The Valencia circuit is one of my favourites. It is a very special track, where I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere –especially for the big races– and it is always full. I’ve never actually finished a race there, but I think I have had good performances.
“We will have to start setting the bike up from scratch, because even though we were there in pre-season the conditions are completely different.”
The title showdown will have an added spice following a dispute between the two riders at the last round in Malaysia.
Marquez’s team protested against Miller in Sepang claiming the Australian intentionally made contact with the Spaniard on his way to finishing second. The protest was rejected after a review of the incident by Race Direction.
