Chaz Mostert says he is already reaping the rewards from being reunited with experienced engineer Adam De Borre following a strong start to the season at the Clipsal 500.
The pair had struck a successful relationship since Mostert stepped up to the main game midway through 2013, with De Borre engineering all eight of his Supercars race wins, including the 2014 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 triumph.
The partnership has been reignited this year after De Borre elected to return to Prodrive following a season at DJR Team Penske in 2016.
Last weekend saw the duo combine again resulting in a strong weekend for Mostert that saw him finish ninth and third in the two 250km races at Adelaide.
Buoyed by his De Borre’s return, the 24-year-old believes he has benefitted from a fresh new approach from his engineer.
“I think the new ideas he (Adam) has brought over have been good,” said Mostert.
“He obviously had a different environment last year and the level of professionalism that he has brought is another notch since he was last with me.
“Adam has got a different aspect on these Supercars and its really showing that he had a crack this weekend by trying come up with something new.
“He is pretty amazing to have in my corner and it was good to get him another podium.”
Despite a much stronger start to the season than previous years, Mostert admits Prodrive has plenty of work ahead to match the front running Triple Eight and DJR Team Penske operations.
“We learned a lot over the two races this weekend,” He added.
“The car felt really good (on Sunday) but I feel we’ve got a long way to go to the guys next to us here (on the podium).
“This weekend coming off the end of the last year to where we are now, I think we’ve come a long way
“There’s still a long road ahead, but it’s pretty amazing how quickly, overnight, it’s changed.
“We’ve got a good base for the AGP (Australian Grand Prix support races) and we’ll be trying some new things to bridge that gap to the guys next to us.”
Mostert is lying fourth in the championship standings following the Clipsal 500 season opener.
