The popular New Zealand summer series announced a switch to the new Gen 2 Formula Regional car for its next season, aligning it with other FR championships globally.
Toyota Gazoo Racing New Zealand confirmed that 15 existing teams submitted expressions of interest during the tendering process.
This included all six teams that took part in the 2026 championship.
The series had received some interest from international teams last season, with British outfit Hitech making its series debut as well as American squad HMD Motorsports partnering with Australian squad TJ Speed.
TGRNZ noted that interest came from categories ranging from Formula 4 through Formula 2.
“Obviously we are thrilled to have such interest from the sport globally and it’s a sure sign that the New Zealand-based series is on the radar of virtually all of the professional junior formulae teams around the world,” said TGRNZ motorsport manager Nicolas Caillol.

“The parity of the cars and engines is second to none and that combined with the unforgiving and technically demanding circuits we have on the four-round calendar ensure it is the best drivers who will be the stand-out performers.
“And that’s why the Castrol Toyota FR Oceania Trophy is popular.”
CTFROT has the added benefit that all cars are prepared at TGRNZ’s own facility at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, a feature unique to the New Zealand championship.
The tender process concluded on May 16 and TGRNZ is currently evaluating applications.
