Richard Muscat has lost his podium finish from the final race of the Dunlop Super2 Series at Townsville following a stewards review.
Muscat was involved in a multi-car incident during Race 2 at Townsville, earlier this month, which was the subject of a stewards investigation that was concluded at Queensland Raceway.
The Garry Rogers Motorsport driver made contact withe the rear of MW Motorsport's Bryce Fullwood, which triggered a chain reaction including Jack Le Brocq and Paul Dumbrell.
Muscat went on to finish the race in third and claim third for the round.
After admitting to a breach of the rules, stewards have handed Muscat a 15-second post-race time penalty, dropping him to 17th position.
“Following an investigation by the RD after the session into a suspected breach of Schedule B2 Article 2.1 Careless Driving (made contact with the rear of Car #16, Bryce Fullwood on entry to Turn 13 under Safety Car Restart conditions) by Car #44 Richard Muscat, and an admission to the breach, the Stewards imposed a penalty of Fifteen (15) Second Post Race Time Penalty added to Car #44's Race Time for Race 2 in Round 4 of the 2017 Dunlop Super2 Series,” read a report from the stewards.
As a result of the penalty, Fullwood has inherited third position for the race, while Jack Perkins has claimed third for the round.
Muscat has slid from sixth to 10th in the championship standings.
The Dunlop Super2 Series resumes at the Red Rooster Sydney Super Sprint from August 18-20.
