Tony D’Alberto will enjoy local and international engineering experience in his return season to Holden in the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship.
With D’Alberto switching from Ford to a Walkinshaw Racing-built Holden Commodore VF this year, the 27-year-old will have former Holden Racing Team engineer Joey Sasso call the shots for him from pit lane, while Terry Kerr, who recently spent time working with Caterham’s F1 team, has been enlisted as the team’s performance engineer.
Sasso and Kerr replace the #3 car’s former engineer Adam De Borre, who has moved on after two years with the Victorian team.
As reported by Speedcafe.com in December, D’Alberto got his first taste of his new WR-built Commodore (in VE bodywork) at Winton.
The team is now preparing for the test at Sydney Motorsport Park in two weeks time and are awaiting arrival of the new Commodore VF bodywork.
D’Alberto is pleased to have Sasso and Kerr on board for 2013, as well as retaining all of team’s floor staff.
“We have an exciting new group of engineers working with our current team that has hardly changed during the off-season,” D’Alberto said.
“Joey and Terry have fit in really well and are a great edition to our team. They bring a wealth of experience that is hard to come by.
“And it’s excellent that we have had some really good team continuity too. We managed to keep all the guys who worked on the floor last year.
“Considering the amount of changes that happen all through the sport, this is an excellent outcome for us. It’s going to be hard enough learning a new car, let alone a new team of people, so it’s nice that we’ve retained all of our key guys.”
The official pre-season V8 Supercars test will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 16.
