Versatile racer Owen Kelly has married partner Whitney Jacobs in an outdoor ceremony in Hawaii, United States today.
Kelly, who drove with Rick Kelly for Jack Daniel’s Racing in the V8 Supercars endurance events at Phillip Island, Bathurst and Surfers Paradise this season, tied the knot with Jacobs halfway between their respective homelands.
Kelly met Jacobs, an American, while living in the United States racing Late Models for Dale Earnhardt Jr’s JR Motorsports team.
The pair will be based in Melbourne, but travel to the US on occasions as Kelly continues to compete in one-off races Stateside, having scored fifth place in his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut at Road America earlier this year.
Motorsports identities at the wedding included former Thunderdome NASCAR pilot and fellow Tasmanian Denzil Mead, former WPS Racing team manager Keith Evers, former Aussie Racing Cars champion Adam Gowans as well as David Earle, Clive Henderson, Ken Paget, Chas Kelly, Kristian Kelly, Don Singline and prominent motorsport publicist and driver manager Brett ‘Crusher’ Murray.
Former Australian Formula 500 champion Ben Devlin was Kelly’s best man. Devlin is also Kelly’s cousin.
Kelly and his new bride will honeymoon in Fiji before returning to Australia for Christmas.
