Tim Pappas has sustained fractures to his right arm and pelvis following a heavy shunt during Bathurst 12 Hour practice.

 The American was at the wheel when the Black Swan Racing Porsche lost control and backed into the wall hard at The Chase before bursting into flames. 

Pappas was conscious following the impact and has since been airlifted to hospital in Sydney for further examination and is in a stable condition.

The 45-year-old will remain in hospital overnight.

Porsche has issued an update on the driver’s condition confirming that he has avoided serious injury. 

“Another update on Tim Pappas’ condition after further examinations in Sydney hospital: @BlkSwnRcng driver @tpap54 sustained fractures on his right arm and pelvis. He stays in clinic for further treatment #GetWellSoon,” read a tweet from Porsche Motorsport. 

The incident is the subject of an investigation by event organisers after images emerged showing a fan attending the crash scene with a fire extinguisher.

Meanwhile, Black Swan Racing has been unable to repair the car forcing the squad to withdraw the entry from the race.
