This weekend’s Red Rooster Sydney Super Sprint could be the last in its current guise with Supercars planning to transform the event next year.
Attendances for Supercars rounds at Sydney Motorsport Park have struggled in recent years prompting the championship to investigate ways to spice up its visit to the Western Sydney venue.
Supercars is pushing forward with plans to host a night race at the circuit which could be held midweek.
The track previously hosted a day/night event for the opening round of the 1996 Australian Touring Car Championship using the shorter circuit.
Shorter race formats have been discussed alongside a radical plan to combine the Supercars and Dunlop Super2 grids.
However, Speedcafe.com understands a format that can be completed inside three hours has been tipped.
