Power faces battle as IndyCar scramble begins

Will Power faces a challenge to retain his IndyCar Series crown with four races remaining

Will Power faces a challenge to retain his IndyCar Series crown with four races remaining

As the IndyCar Series moves into the shadows of the season Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya continues to hold the trump card to claim a second crown.

Heading into the Iowa Corn Indy 300 this weekend, Montoya holds a 54-point lead over Scott Dixon while Graham Rahal is sitting third, 69 points off the lead.

Helio Castroneves is locked on the same amount of points as Rahal while Will Power has lost ground and is 70 points in arrears.

After successive DNFs at Fontana and Milwaukee, Power is faced with the difficult scenario where he has only been previously successful at one of the remaining four tracks.

While Power’s title defence is far from extinguished given the sliding points scale of the series, he is yet to record wins at Iowa, Mid Ohio and Pocono.

The season ends at Sonoma, where the Toowoomba star is a three-time winner.

After netting the Milwaukee victory last weekend French ace Sebastien Bourdais joined Montoya, Dixon and Josef Newgarden as the only two-time winners this season.

Bourdais is sixth in the points standings, 96 behind Montoya while Newgarden sits in ninth.

Marco Andretti, one of eight different winners from the 12 races to date in 2015, is seventh, 107 points behind and is the only driver to complete all the laps this season.
