Will Power and Scott McLaughlin set the fourth and seventh fastest times respectively in today’s 12-car IndyCar Series test at Barber Motorsports Park.

Rinus VeeKay, last year’s category rookie of the year, was quickest for Ed Carpenter Racing with a 66.518s on the 3.83km course.

Second quickest was A.J Foyt Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais, who ended the day just 0.115s adrift of the top time.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal was third and 0.203s off the pace, completing the most laps of anyone on the day with 141 to his credit.

Power was fourth and 0.384s from VeeKay’s quickest lap while Conor Daly of Ed Carpenter Racing completed the top five, half a second in arrears.

Team Penske trio Josef Newgarden, McLaughlin, and Simon Pagenaud held sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively.

McLaughlin completed 104 laps, a 67.065s putting him 0.547s adrift of VeeKay.

Dalton Kellett (A.J. Foyt Racing), Ed Jones (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan), Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing), and Romain Grosjean (Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing) completed the 12-car field.

The test was punctuated by an off for IndyCar Series rookie Grosjean, whose excitement wasn’t dampened despite the incident.

McLaughlin, Grosjean, and Jimmie Johnson go into this year’s season as the sole series rookies.

The IndyCar Series season-opener at Barber Motorsports Park is slated for April 18.
