David Reynolds has set himself the target of finishing in the championship top five this year as he looks to build on a standout 2017 with Erebus Motorsport.
The 32-year-old found himself regularly fighting at the sharp end last season, finishing seventh and the top Holden runner outside of the factory squad in the championship standings.
Reynolds scored 15 top 10 finishes including a three podiums, headlined by an impressive drive to a maiden victory in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
This year he will once again line up in the #9 Erebus Motorsport entry but will be armed with brand new chassis and ZB Commodore aero package.
Despite the changes, he is setting lofty goals for the new season which begins on the Adelaide streets next weekend.
While confident he has the team behind him to achieve the goals, he admits the challenge to achieve the target will only be tougher this year.
“My goal last year was to finish in the top eight and we finished seventh so my goal this year is to finish in the top five,” Reynolds told Speedcafe.com.
“The closer you get to the top the harder it is but we are well prepared for the challenge.
“The mindset for us is to consolidate on what we did last year and try and build on it and go better.
“It is always about trying to better ourselves and better our base package and I think that is not too bad.
“I love being part of this team and I enjoy going racing with them.”
On top of the new car, Reynolds will go up against a new team-mate in Anton De Pasquale, who has been promoted to the race seat following an impressive campaign in the Dunlop Super2 Series.
De Pasquale has made a strong impression on his new team already and could provide Reynolds a strong intra-team battle all season.
“Anton has really slotted in nicely, you would think he has been with us for a year already,” team manager Barry Ryan told Speedcafe.com.
“Between him and his engineer (Mirko De Rosa) they were making really good decisions and had a really good plan. I think they will kick some goals pretty quick.”
The new Supercars season begins at the South Australia capital from March 1-4.
