Steven Richards has claimed pole position for the opening Carrera Cup race during a dramatic session which included two major incidents.
The first involved Marc Cini who had a high-speed spin through the Chase bunkered on the outside. Then with minutes remaining Maurie Pickering had a hard crash coming off Skyline. The second incident bringing out the red flag with three minutes to run in the 20-minute session.
Richards, who trails championship leader Warren Luff by six points, set the new qualifying record time of 2:08.6432 to better Nick Percat’s mark from last year by over a tenth of a second.
Shane Smollen was the fastest of the Elite runners.
The first race of the weekend will be this afternoon at 1425
