MotoGP support series rider Afridza Munandar has succumbed to injuries sustained in a race at the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.
Munandar was involved in an incident at Turn 10 on the opening lap of an Asia Talent Cup race held shortly after MotoGP qualifying at the Sepang International Circuit.
The 20-year-old Indonesian received medical attention by the side of the track before being transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital by helicopter.
Despite the best efforts of circuit medical staff and those at the hospital, Munandar sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Munandar had emerged as a rising star in the series having scored two wins and a further four podiums, placing him in the title fight.
“The FIM, FIM Asia, Dorna Sports, and all those in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup pass on our deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Munandar,” read a statement in part from MotoGP.
