Valentino Rossi has escaped serious injury in a frightening crash at Aragon that saw the nine-time world champion knocked unconscious.
The Italian lost control of his Yamaha while battling with Dani Pedrosa in the early stages of what proved a crash-strewn race.
Rossi was taken from the scene on a stretcher before later walking into the circuit’s medical centre.
Cleared of serious injury, he then underwent precautionary scans at Alcaniz hospital.
“Valentino suffered a concussion with a suspected loss of consciousness,” MotoGP medical director Michele Zasa said.
“From a neurological point of view he has recovered very well. He was taken to hospital in Alcañiz to make a further check, in particular a CT scan of the skull that has ruled out any bleeding in the brain.
“As a precaution he will be observed in the coming hours, but there are no special reasons for concern.”
Rossi remains third in the standings after the Grand Prix of Aragon, which yielded team-mate Jorge Lorenzo his first win of the season.
