GP2 racer Alexander Rossi will take part in free practice sessions in America and Canada for the Caterham F1 team.

The FP1 sessions at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas and Montreal’s Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve will be the American driver’s first taste of the 2014 spec Caterham F1 car.

Rossi, who has acted as a reserve driver for the Leafield team since 2012, has competed in several practice and test sessions for the squad, but is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to drive the new CT05.

The 22-year-old has already completed extensive mileage in the team’s simulator aiding the development of the 2014 car.

“Each time I step into F1 machinery there is an important job to do”, said Rossi

“Montreal and Austin are important races for me and I want to thank Caterham for the opportunity to continue my development to a full time race seat in F1.

While his GP2 commitments remain a primary focus, Rossi hopes the experience can bring him a step closer to a future F1 drive.

“My GP2 program combined with my F1 team Reserve Driver duties give me invaluable insight and experience for my future,” added Rossi

“I’ve built up a lot of hours in the F1 simulator already this year, but Montreal will be my first visit behind the wheel of the CT05 on track. I look forward to a positive run plan for both the Canadian and USA sessions.”
