After four years away from competitive racing Sam Brabham will return to the track this weekend having landed a Porsche Carrera Cup GB drive.

The 24-year-old son of 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours winner David Brabham will drive for the established Carrera Cup squad Redline Racing in the penultimate round of the season at Silverstone.

Brabham has been largely absent from the race track since finishing fourth in the 2013 British Formula Ford Championship but has been active as a driver coach which he has dovetailed with stunt driving in blockbuster films such as Mission Impossible 5 – Rogue Nation.

He has also helped with the development of the new Brabham BT62 track car.

This weekend will prove a challenge having only logged a handful of a laps in a Carrera Cup car from a scholarship program.

“To say I’m delighted to be joining Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Silverstone with reigning team champions Redline Racing, is an understatement,” said Brabham.

“It has been a long four years out of competitive racing, however, everything I’ve experienced during that time has made me more than ready for this opportunity.

“It means a huge amount to be making my racing return at a track steeped in Brabham success, with a special livery marking Brabham’s illustrious history.

“I’ve wanted to make the switch to sportscars for a long time. I was lucky to be selected as a Porsche Scholarship finalist in 2015, so I at least have that experience under my belt.

“This will still be a big challenge but I’m ready and extremely excited to get going.”

Brabham will step up his preparations by heading to Silverstone on Wednesday for a pre-event test day.
