Formula Ford improver Sam Power has committed to another season of national Formula Ford competition, but has his sights firmly set on V8 Supercars in the future.
After finishing second overall in last weekend’s round at Mount Panorama, the 23-year-old says he will remain in Formula Ford for one more season, continuing his relationship with Synergy Motorsport.
But while his short-term future is sorted, he has bigger long-term plans.
“I have unfinished business in Formula Ford. I really want to have a crack at the championship next year,” Power told Speedcafe.com.
“It’s going to be very tough competition next year. There are quite a number of drivers in their rookie year – Anton (De Pasquale), Macauley (Jones) or Simon (Hodge) – they’ve all done exceptional job. It’s going to be amazing competition, which is fantastic for the category, and it helps us get better as drivers, so I’m looking forward to that.
“But for me, my career aspirations revolve around V8 Supercars. Being slightly older than some of the other guys, Europe becomes less of an option, but that’s not to say that V8 Supercars isn’t a goal to aspire to.
“The level of competition is probably the best in the world. I would love to be a part of it, and that’s my aim.”
Power’s Bathurst result was his career-best Formula Ford result, topping his third overall at crash-marred Townsville event.
The South Australian currently sits fifth in the prestigious championship, with Jack Le Brocq wrapping up the title at Bathurst.
The final round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship will be held at Winton Motor Raceway on November 16-18.
