Carrera Cup Australia front-runner Richard Muscat has received a wildcard entry for Porsche’s Supercup scholarship shootout in Germany.

Former Australian GT champion Muscat will join Nick Foster at the October 5-6 test, which will award 200,000 Euros towards a Supercup drive for the winner.

Muscat is one of two wildcards selected to compete alongside a single standout driver under the age of 26 from each Carrera Cup championship globally.

Only one Australian, Sam Power, has previously attended the event, taking part last year.

Although not winning the scholarship, Power cut his own deal to contest this year’s Supercup, where he races against fellow Aussie Spike Goddard.

The 23-year-old Muscat says selection for the shootout marks the biggest opportunity of his career to date.

“I really can’t believe I’ve been awarded this opportunity to represent Carrera Cup Australia alongside Nick,” he said.

“This will be the biggest opportunity of my career; the experience to work with Porsche Motorsport alone will be priceless for my development, both in and out of the race car.

“I’ve been racing Porsches nearly my whole career so to be able to attend this Porsche Motorsport event in Germany is an absolute dream come true.

“It’s a big step forward to becoming a professional racing driver and I’m sure what I take from it will benefit me greatly in the future.”

Muscat moved from karts to the Victorian Porsche 944 Challenge Series in 2012, winning the title as a rookie before repeating the feat in the GT3 Cup Challenge the following season.

Both Muscat and Foster will travel directly from the yet-to-be-revealed scholarship test location in Germany to the penultimate round of the Carrera Cup season at Bathurst.
