Shannons Wrap: Seton sets Sandown pace
Glenn Seton

Glenn Seton proved the man to beat in practice for the second round of the Touring Car Masters at Sandown.

The former Sandown 500 winner clocked a 1:15.37s lap in the third and final practice session to sit on top of the time sheets.

The Ford Mustang driver edged out reigning champion John Bowe, who was 0.3s adrift, behind the wheel of his Holden Torana.

Championship leader Greg Ritter (Chevrolet Monza) continued his strong form in third, while also ensuring three marque’s filled the top three positions.

The iSeek Holden Torana of Jason Gomersall topped the opening session of the day, but ultimately ended fourth overall.

Taz Douglas kicked off his Kumho V8 Touring Car Series campaign on a positive note as he topped the times in practice.

The former V8 Supercars full-timer posted a 1:12.11 effort in the THR Developments VE Commodore as the series welcomed the newer generation cars for the first time.

Fellow Dunlop Series regular Bryce Fullwood was Douglas’ nearest rival. The teenager was 0.2s shy in his Matt White Motorsport BF Falcon.

Newcomer Tyler Greenbury was third fastest ahead of Brad Jones Racing’s Josh Smith, with Jim Pollicina in fifth.

Defending Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge champion Ryan Simpson looks set for a battle this weekend after being pipped by Jaxon Evans in practice.

Evans’ practice two time of 1:13.30s was just 0.04s faster than Simpson’s practice one benchmark, setting the scene for a thrilling battle at the front of the field this weekend.

Simpson’s Sonic Motor Racing team-mate Hamish Hardeman shaded the two fastest drivers today, finishing just 0.1 seconds behind.

John Goodacre topped the Elite class runners across the two sessions, while Michael Tsigeridis was the fastest in Class B.

The Kerrick Sports Sedans produced one of the closest battles as multiple champion Tony Ricciardello edged Holden V8 Supercars enduro driver Jack Perkins by 0.0555s.

David Wall emerged third fastest behind the wheel of his late father’s Corvette, with the former V8 Supercars man 2.5s adrift of Ricciardello’s Alfa Romeo.

Former two-time Australian Formula 3 champion Tim Macrow was fastest in a hotly contested F3 practice battle.

Macrow ended the day just 0.06s quicker than R-Tek Motorsport’s Roland Legge, with the returning Chris Anthony third just 0.17s adrift.

Synergy Motorsport’s Andrew Kahl ended on top in the Australian Formula Ford Series, pipping Leanne Tander, who was fastest in the opening hit out, by four tenths of a second.

Adrian Lazzaro was third while the top eight were covered by a little over a second.

Roger I’Anson topped all three sessions in the Sports Racer Series. The newly created Australian GT Trophy Series will make its debut tomorrow.
