Teenager Alex Rullo showcased his burgeoning talent by completing a clean sweep in the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series in round five of the Shannons Nationals.
Boosted by his convincing win on Saturday, the 15-year-old Western Australian wrapped up a perfect weekend with two impressive victories at Queensland Raceway.
Rullo began the day by recording a lights-to-flag triumph in his Matt White Motorsport Ford Falcon from Eggleston Motorsport’s Liam McAdam and Steve Devjak.
The final race proved to be more of a challenge after Rullo, who started from pole, found himself fourth on the opening lap when the Safety Car was called to retrieve McAdam’s car from the Turn 2 gravel trap.
However, Rullo managed to find his way by Steve Briffa, Matt Palmer and Jason Heck on his way to victory, which saw him close to within five points of series leader McAdam.
Holden Racing Team V8 Supercars co-driver Jack Perkins produced two faultless drives to complete a perfect weekend in the Kerrick Sports Sedans.
Perkins, driving the Darren Hossack Audi, swept to two commanding victories to add to his win in a tense battle with reigning champion Tony Ricciardello on Saturday.
Ricciardello and Steve Tamasi completed the podium in day’s first race, while mechanical issues saw the former unable to repeat the feat in the finale.
Thomas Randle trailed Perkins in the final race, with Tamasi claiming another third place finish.
Ryan Simpson moved a step closer to claiming the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge crown after recording two dominant wins to complete a Queensland Raceway clean sweep.
Simpson cruised to the chequered flag ahead of Dylan O’Keefe and Jim Richards Trophy winner James Abela in Race 2.
Abela managed to get the better O’Keefe in the final race, as Simpson extended his series lead to 79 points.
Ben Grice proved unstoppable in the Super Six Touring Car Series as he extended his run of victories to six.
The second generation racer recorded two race wins from defending champion Gavin Ross, while Ashley Jarvis and Gary Beggs finished third in Race 2 and Race 3 respectively.
A late charge from Beric Lynton helped him secure an Australian Manufacturers Championship double in the final 200km race of the weekend.
The BMW driver took the lead with 15 laps remaining after a thrilling battle with the Grant and Iain Sherrin BMW 135i.
The HSV Commodore of Jim Pollicina and Dean Lillie recovered from an early puncture to finish third.
Gilmour Racing’s Jon Collins extended his Australian Formula 3 Championship lead with a double triumph.
Collins completed a lights-to-flag win in Race 2 as he took the chequered flag from Roland Legge and title rival Ricky Capo, who scythed his way through the field after stalling on the grid.
The New South Welshman dominated the feature race to record a comfortable win from Capo, Legge and the returning Chris Gilmour.
Meanwhile, Luke Spalding clinched the National Class title with two rounds to spare.
Cameron Hill remains the man to beat in the Australian Formula Ford Series as he secured two race wins to clinch the fifth round of the season.
The Canberra racer enjoyed a relatively straight forward drive to victory from Luis Leeds and Will Brown in Race 2 of the weekend, before surviving a thrilling finale.
Hill came under immense pressure from Leeds and Brown Race 3 but he held his nerve to score his eighth win from the last nine races to extend his stay at the top of the standings.
Saturday victor Leeds fended off Brown in a dramatic final lap to secure second.
Joshua Townsend guided his Formula 1000 single seater to a double victory in the two Sports Racer Series encounters.
The Shannons Nationals head to Victoria’s Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit from September 18-20.
