Experienced prototype racer Mathias Beche has revealed a desire to compete in the all-new LMP3 Cup Australia next year.
The Swiss driver is among the first to declare interest in the new category which is set to bring LMP3 prototype racing to Australian shores for the first time.
Upon hearing the news Beche, who races with LMP1 squad Rebellion Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, has registered his interest in the series.
The 32-year-old has extensive experience in prototypes having the contested the last six Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing this year’s edition third outright alongside Thomas Laurent and Gustavo Menezes.
Beche, who won this year’s Silverstone 6 Hours after both Toyota LMP1 entries were disqualified, has raced LMP3 machinery in the Asian Le Mans Series where he was engineered by Australian Matt Harvey.
The pair hope to reunite with an Australian team in LMP3 Cup Australia next year.
“I always wanted to race in Australia. The tracks are amazing and the LMP3 will suit perfectly,” said Beche.
“LMP3 is the best value car for Amateur drivers nowadays. It’s proper racing car, yet quite simple compared to an LMP1 I normally drive and I really enjoy being behind the wheel.
“For a gentleman, they are easy to understand and very fun to drive so the enjoyment factor is high.
“I’m looking forward to working again with Matt Harvey from Dark Energy Race Engineering. We were very successful in Asia winning each weekend and scoring 100 percent of pole positions.
“I can’t wait to discover this new challenge.”
LMP3 Cup Australia is currently working on its calendar for next season but has confirmed it has competitors ready to table car orders for competition in 2019.
