Steve Owen completes Dunlop Series clean sweep

Steve Owen steams to double

Steve Owen has taken a clean sweep as Casey Stoner diced with the leaders in Round 6 of the Dunlop V8 Supercars Series at Mount Panorama.

Once again Owen led from pole, built a margin over the field, and handled a Safety Car restart without any trouble to ensure a perfect two from two and a second round win in 2013.

Dale Wood largely ran his own race to finish second, extending his series lead ahead of the season finale.

Jack Perkins ensured that the Race 1 podium was replicated in Race 2, executing a clinical opening lap move on Taz Douglas at The Chase, then holding out Casey Stoner on the Lap 9 restart.

Ash Walsh put in a workman-like performance to advance to fourth and keep his titles aspirations alive, and might have made the podium had the race not been shortened from 14 to 12 laps.

Drew Russell followed, having run as high as fourth when Taz Douglas and Andrew Jones came into contact at The Chase on Lap 2 and tangled again on the way out.

Those two were next across the line, from George Miedecke, Kristian Lindbom and Chris Pither.

Stoner, however, was arguably the story of the race, keeping his nose clean amid the stoushes around him before passing Drew Russell for fourth at Griffins Bend on Lap 5 after a superior run coming off Hell Corner.

The podium appeared possible for the twice MotoGP world champion when a Safety Car closed the field up after Morgan Haber took Aaren Russell into the Hell Corner gravel trap on Lap 6, but Stoner glanced the wall under the tree at Reid Park on the restart lap.

Paul Morris rounded out the enduro co-drivers in eleventh.

The Dunlop Series now enters a long break before the final round at Sydney Olympic Park on the second weekend of December.
