Casey Stoner has paid a visit to Mount Panorama – and has again stated his desire to switch his competitive career to four wheels at the end of his motorcycle exploits.
The current MotoGP world title leader was a guest of TeamVodafone, chatting extensively with team owner Roland Dane and Craig Lowndes' engineer Jeromy Moore.
Australian Motocross star Chad Reed was also with TeamVodafone with Stoner.
With a second world crown almost in his hands, Stoner says that he is eyeing switch to four-wheels when his bike racing career is over.
“It's something I'd really like to do to be honest,” the Honda rider said in regards to driving a V8 Supercar.
“After two wheels and the amount of years I've done it, there's only so more I can do, so this is something I'd like to set myself a new challenge for and see if I could become competitive enough to race against these boys. That would be a long way away, though, and really hard work.”
Stoner can clinch the MotoGP crown in the next event at Phillip Island (October 14-16).
He says that given the points gap to closest rival Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha), it is unlikely that he'll be able to take the title at Phillip Island next weekend.
“We're not too far away from the championship, but at the same time, a long way,” he said.
“Phillip Island, we have our first opportunity to win it there, but it will depend on how things go. Jorge has been really strong all season, so it will be hard to win it.
“Hopefully in the next round or two after that we can clinch the championship. It didn't look good at the beginning of the year, but we've pulled them back and everything has been going well for us.”
Stoner is only at Bathurst for today and says that he will watch ‘The Great Race' from the comfort of his home with his wife.
