Supercars squad 23Red Racing has toasted its impressive start to the new Supercars season by creating its own beer.

The squad has taken delivery of a batch of 23Red Racing Golden Ales this week produced by Melbourne’s The Public Brewery which is part-owned by the team’s majority shareholder Phil Munday.

Munday secured a controlling stake in the former Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport last year to create 23Red Racing, which made its debut at the Adelaide 500 season opener, where driver Will Davison guided an ex-Tickford Racing Ford to eighth and 12th place finishes.

The Supercars team owner has admitted the idea to create a beer was a joke initially but the reaction from social media has prompted the team to pursue the venture.

“I’m part owner of the The Public Brewery and have been for five years and my business partner came in yesterday and gave me a box of beers (all branded up) and they were fantastic,” Munday told Speedcafe.com.

“It has been an idea I’ve had for a while but I didn’t think I would do it straight away.

“We have had a lot of social media and phone calls about it. It was one of those things we thought we would do as a joke, but it certainly is a beer we should be bottling and selling it.”

He expects a special brew to be created to celebrate the team’s first podium finish.

“Absolutely (there will be a special brew) and they will be put out there quickly,” he added.

“If we get a win or a podium look out!”

Munday’s squad will return to action next weekend when the championship heads to Albert Park for the Coates Hire Melbourne 400 from March 22-25.
