Supercars has named Givit, which is supporting the Townsville flood appeal, as the official charity for this July’s Watpac Townsville 400.

The North Queensland city was hit by some of the worst flooding in its history in February, resulting in the evacuation of hundreds of homes.

Parts of the Reid Park Street Circuit were among the flooded areas, before the permanent pit garages were used by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services in the clean-up effort.

According to Supercars, there will be further announcements regarding flood appeal initiatives leading up to the event.

“Townsville has been a part of the Supercars family for more than a decade and we know how difficult the past few months have been for the region,” said Supercars CEO Sean Seamer.

“The drivers have a great connection with local residents that have spent over a decade supporting this event and everyone is looking forward to getting to Townsville in 100 days’ time.”

Meanwhile, Killing Heidi and Icehouse have been named as the concert acts for the event and will perform in the Big Top on the Saturday night.

As part of the launch for this year’s Townsville 400, Watpac was confirmed as having extended its naming rights sponsorship for a third year.

The Queensland-based company is building the new North Queensland Stadium which is located near the circuit.

The Townsville 400 takes place from July 5-7.
