Shane van Gisbergen is set to tackle the Honeywell Garrett International Drift Challenge at the World Time Attack Challenge event at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The reigning Supercars champion is due to pilot a heavily modified Nissan 370Z prepared by Queensland operation MCA at the meeting from October 13-14.
Van Gisbergen has driven for the team in 2014 and 2015 in the Time Attack section of the competition.
Last year Brad Jones Racing’s Tim Slade took up the drive with van Gisbergen unable to compete due to team commitments with Triple Eight.
Van Gisbergen has been a regular in drift events in the past and last year his Supercars team created a special drift version of his Red Bull race car for a promotional stunt at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“I am seriously looking forward to getting back into a competitive drift car,” said Van Gisbergen.
“I did the promo shoot for Red Bull last year at SMP but due to my busy work schedule I have not driven in a drift competition for quite a while and I really miss it.
“I really like working with the MCA guys too. This is going to be fun for sure but I will certainly be pushing for the win particularly against some of the world’s best.”
MCA has overhauled its 370Z for the event fitting it with a new Nissan V8 engine which has upped the cars output to 730 horse power.
