The Bend Motorsport Park has confirmed the title sponsor for its inaugural Supercars round in August.
Service station/convenience store retailer On The Run (OTR) will become the event’s partner which was confirmed during an official launch at the new state-of-the-art South Australian circuit.
OTR, owned by The Bend Motorsport Park executive director Dr Sam Shahin, operates 135 petrol station and convenience stores in South Australia, including one located at the circuit.
The 4.95km circuit will play host to Supercars for the first time from August 24-26, which is part of a three-year deal struck to host Australia’s premier series.
It was also confirmed that the Supercars field will be bolstered by two wildcard entries.
The inaugural OTR SuperSprint will feature five support categories; the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia, Kumho Tyre V8 Touring Car Series, Aussie Racing Cars, Toyota 86 Racing Series and the Formula Ford National Series.
Brad Jones Racing driver Nick Percat attended today’s launch and is already eagerly anticipating his first race at the venue.
“It’s a really challenging and technical circuit that is going to test all the drivers,” said Percat.
“Getting a look at the circuit, you can see a number of areas you expect will be high-speed and turns that are going to be critical to get right when we start racing here.
“Everyone will be pushing to be at the front from opening practice through to the final race on the Sunday, so I think it will be a great weekend of racing.”
Shahin has been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the new circuit since it opened its doors in April.
“We are so thrilled to have had such an overwhelmingly positive response from visitors to the facility in the short period of time we’ve been open to the public,” said Shahin.
“We’re looking forward to showcasing the venue on a national and international stage in August when Supercars arrive. There is still a lot of exciting development to come.”
