Todd Kelly has completed a shakedown of a freshly built Nissan Altima at Winton.
Nissan has built up a new chassis for Kelly after MW Motorsport took ownership of his ageing Altima for use in this year’s Dunlop Super2 Series.
Kelly had completed 130 races spanning four seasons in his previous charge.
Nissan enjoyed a trouble free shakedown of its chassis #007 at the north-eastern Victorian circuit, completing the permitted maximum of 60km of running under Supercars’ sporting regulations.
“It was quite exciting actually,” Kelly told Speedcafe.com.
“I didn’t really want to get out of the car to be honest.
“The car ran without a drama and it was good to get back in a Supercar again having jumped in the GT-R at the Bathurst 12 Hour.
“It was handy to shake the car down and get back into the groove myself.
“It is just nice having a new car but at the end of the day none of that stuff is measurable on the stopwatch.
“It feels different because I am so used to my old car. The steering wheel only has to be a couple of millimetres different and it will feel funny.
“However, once I was blasting around towards the end of the shakedown I was quite at home with it and can’t wait to get back at it.”
Kelly is joined by incumbents brother Rick and Michael Caruso while rookie Simona de Silvestro adds a new dimension to the four-car operation.
In addition to Kelly’s shakedown there are a host of Dunlop Super2 Series teams testing including Eggleston Motorsport, Brad Jones Racing and MW Motorsport which will campaign a pair of Nissan Altimas this year.
Triple Eight is set to shakedown three new chassis for its drivers Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes at Queensland Raceway on Thursday.
The Brisbane squad will be joined at the Ipswich venue by DJR Team Penske with new signing Scott McLaughlin eager to put his FG X through its paces in a shakedown.
