Todd Kelly has been docked 25 points after a collision with Jason Bright in Race 16 of the V8 Supercars Championship during the Coastes Hire Ipswich 300 today.
The #7 Jack Daniel’s Racing driver collected Bright’s Team BOC Commodore during their battle for 13th on Lap 41 at Turn 6. The contact sent Bright into the sand trap.
The stewards immediately issued Kelly with the points penalty, with Bright frustrated by the incident.
“We had a good little battle for several laps, but the incident was disappointing,” Bright told Speedcafe.com.
“We had a much stronger car under brakes, and got beside him a number of times but didn’t pull it off. Then he had a lunge from a mile back – there was no way it was going to happen.”
Bright said that he only has himself to blame, given he had a poor qualifying performance and a stall in pit lane during the 120km race.
“We had a stall in the pits, and didn’t qualify well, so we shouldn’t even be back with them,” he said.
“I think we’re way better than them at the moment and we shouldn’t be behind them and having to pass them. It’s partly our fault.”
Kelly accepted blame for the incident but said that the clash wasn’t the only time the pair exchanged paint.
“We did have a good battle, but I should say that he did the same thing to me the lap before,” Kelly told Speedcafe.com.
“He has come out good in the whole deal anyway, because he has jumped ahead of me in the championship … so all ends well.”
Another incident between James Moffat, Alexandre Premat and Steve Owen remains under investigation.
