Steven Richards Motorsport has confirmed plans to field two factory supported BMW M6 GT3s in next year’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

The operation will now expand to run two M6 GT3s under the BMW Team SRM banner for the Mount Panorama endurance (February 3-5), having run a sole entry in the Australian GT and Endurance Championships this year.

The owner of the car is yet to be disclosed but there are plans for the vehicle to remain at BMW Team SRM following the event for a possible Australian GT campaign.

Driver line-ups for both cars are yet to be announced although team owner Steven Richards will lead one of the entries.

It is highly likely BMW will send factory drivers to bolster Team SRM’s Bathurst 12 Hour bid.

The marque’s DTM star Bruno Spengler has already tabled his ambition to compete in the GT3 endurance earlier this year.

“I think Bathurst will suit the car,” Richards told Speedcafe.com.

“There is no question we thought we would have an easier path than we have this year.

“The car has now proven itself overseas with the Spa 24 Hour win, so we are just quietly moving along to make our product better.

“The best part about being involved with BMW as a customer is we have direct access to engineering support and the ability to draft in some of their drivers, and that is definitely on the list of things we are trying to achieve.

“It is a bucket list thing. As your career evolves there are certain things you want to tick off and I would like to have a crack at winning the Bathurst 12 Hour.”

Team SRM plans to conduct a full test program with both its cars in the lead up to the Bathurst 12 Hour.

The event is expected to see at least three M6 GT3s on the grid with MARC GT set to field a privately run entry.
