V8 Supercars endurance drivers will get extra Phillip Island race miles this weekend in Round 5 of the Vodka O Australian GT Championship this weekend.
The 18 car field will include Fujitsu GRM driver Marcus Marshall, plus Daniel Gaunt, who will team-up with Tim Slade in the #47 Lucky 7 Falcon.
Other one-off drivers for the Father’s Day weekend GT racing include Carerra Cup pilot Jonny Reid and former Indy Lights driver Josh Hunt.
Marshall and Reid will partner the McElrea Racing duo of John Modystach and Rob Knight in their Porsche 997 GT3s who will both be making their GT racing debuts.
Hunt will be partner Townsville round winner Kevin Weeks in the Lamborghini Gallardo which Weeks said should be an interesting experience.
Daniel Gaunt will pair up with Dean Grant in the recently repaired Vodka O Mosler.
Marshall says that it will be a great chance to get race ready for the first V8 Supercars endurance race at the Island circuit in two weeks time.
“The GT class is strong, the cars are great to drive and its the perfect opportunity to dust off the cobwebs,” Marshall told Speedcafe.com.
“For me, my weekend will be all about helping the McElrea team, plus getting my mind back in racing mode for when I team up with Michael (Caruso) in the GRM Commodore.”
Other entrants taking on two drivers include Barton Mawer, who will co-drive the Angelo Lazaris Lotus Exige GT3, Damien Flack will share the Porsche 997 Cup Car with brother Adrian, while Stig Richards will co-drive with Tim Poulton.
Round 5 of the Australian GT Championship will feature two one hour races on Sunday with compulsory pit stops regardless of whether or not a co-driver is in the car.
Championship leader Klark Quinn will drive the V.I.P. Petfoods Mosler solo, as will father Tony Quinn in the Aston Martin.
Peter Hackett will also drive the new Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 in its first GT race outing at Phillip Island.
Drivers will also be fighting out for the honour of taking home the CAMS Tourist Trophy.
