Shane van Gisbergen has been relegated from 10th to 21st in Race 3 of Supercars’ non-championship hit-out at Albert Park after incurring time penalties for two separate infractions.
Van Gisbergen was issued a 10-second post-race penalty for an infringement of starting procedures at the rolling start, and a further 40 seconds for contact with Tim Blanchard at the first corner.
Stewards found that the Red Bull HRT driver had failed to maintain a one car length distance behind the car immediately in front at Turn 16, and failed to maintain the required speed.
Van Gisbergen had made up 12 positions on the opening lap alone, the majority by the exit of Turn 1, after starting 23rd.
He was also found to have made “reckless contact” with Blanchard.
According to the stewards summary, van Gisbergen admitted fault for both incidents.
He was, however, cleared of wrongdoing for contact with Todd Kelly, also on the opening lap.
Stewards investigated two other matters, clearing the drivers investigated.
Tim Slade had come under investigation for shortcutting the circuit after contact with Cameron Waters, while Dale Wood was cleared of a reckless driving charge after contact with Scott Pye at the first corner.
The final race of the weekend will be held tomorrow at 1305 AEDT.
