Sebastien Vettel single handedly led Team Germany to a record seventh victory in the ROC Nations Cup at Miami’s Marlins Park.
The four-time world champion was forced to represent his country on his own after new Sauber F1 signing Pascal Wehrlein withdrew from the event following his much publicised flip during the individual competition.
Vettel managed to breeze through the group stages claiming four heat wins as he saw off Team Nordic (Petter Solberg/Tom Kristensen) and Team United Kingdom (Jenson Button/ David Coulthard.
The Ferrari F1 star then set up a final against Team USA NASCAR with a 2-0 triumph over Team Colombia’s Juan Pablo Montoya and Gabby Chaves.
Montoya had earlier taken out the Race of Champions individual competition.
Vettel made no mistakes in the final with a slick 2-0 victory after taking heat wins against NASCAR stars Kurt and Kyle Busch.
“The Race Of Champions is a great competition, but yesterday I went out very early,” said Vettel of his seventh Nations Cup triumph.
“So I wanted to make sure I didn’t leave the States empty-handed.
“I started on the wrong foot but it helped me to take it a bit more seriously. Today I just wanted to get some more time on the track.
“I found the rhythm straightaway and it felt pretty good.
“Unlike yesterday, I got along with all the cars today.
“But that’s the way it goes: sometimes you wake up and it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It obviously worked out well but of course it would have been nicer to share this victory with Pascal.”
Meanwhile, a selection of drivers representing ‘The World’ overcame Team USA 8-7 in a Ryder Cup style points scoring special event to cap the Race of Champions meeting.
