Points leader Cameron Waters will start tomorrow’s opening race of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Phillip Island from pole position.

Waters produced a quick early lap in today’s 20 minute qualifying session that was never headed – earning the Sonic Mygale driver a valuable championship point.

CAMS Rising Star drivers Jack LeBrocq and Trent Harrison will start second and third respectively, but face a difficult task in overcoming Waters tomorrow.

“I was lucky to get an early quick lap in that session and benefited from a tow down the main straight from my teammate Nick Foster, which gave me the edge,” said Waters.

“We improved the car across the day and I’ve also got more confident, so I think those factors contributed to the speed we had out there.

“I feel like I have a really good car for the race, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow, it’s a great track to race on with plenty of passing opportunities, so it should be exciting.”

Having taken his maiden round win at Sandown last weekend, LeBrocq is confident he’ll be competitive again tomorrow.

“I’m certainly riding a wave of confidence, which helps, but it’s more than that,” LeBrocq said of his speed.

“The team is working really well together and everyone is starting to gel, which is starting to show in our results.

“I’ve got a good race car and as we’ve seen in the past, there are plenty of opportunities to pass, so it will be a lot of fun tomorrow.”

Gary Jacobson will start alongside Harrison on the second row of the grid, ahead of Tom Williamson and Nick Foster, while Matt Brabham, Daniel Erickson, Jordan Lloyd and Shae Davies rounded out the top 10.

Earlier in the day Harrison and Foster topped the two practice sessions ahead of Waters and LeBrocq respectively.

Two races will be held at the Victorian circuit tomorrow, before the weekend concludes on Sunday morning.
