Whincup on provisional pole for Race 11

TeamVodafone driver Jamie Whincup

Jamie Whincup has set the provisional fastest time in qualifying for Race 11 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series at Winton.

The TeamVodafone driver set a time of 1:22.2388s, just a tenth off Garth Tander’s outright qualifying record from 2009.

The Top 10 Shootout will be held at 12:25pm.

James Courtney was second in his Jim Beam Racing Falcon FG, ahead of the resurgent Steven Richards (Dunlop Super Dealers FPR), Todd Kelly (Jack Daniel’s Racing), Michael Caruso (Fujitsu Racing), Garth Tander (Toll HRT), Steven Johnson (Jim Beam Racing), Mark Winterbottom (Orrcon Steel FPR), Craig Lowndes (TeamVodafone) and Will Davison (Toll HRT).

Notable drivers missing from the top 10 include yesterday’s fast men Shane van Gisbergen (15th) and Rick Kelly (13th).

Lee Holdsworth was also further back than he’d like to be in 16th place.

Wilson Security Racing’s Tim Slade was impressive, taking 14th place – and the best of the Stone Brothers Racing Falcons.
