Jamie Whincup is putting his Symmons Plains fuel shortage drama behind him and looking towards this weekend’s penultimate event on the V8 Supercars calendar.
The TeamVodafone driver was in a position to snatch the lead of the V8 Supercars Championship Series, but a fuel calculation error cost him a chance of being 50 points ahead in the V8 title, rather than a 50 point deficit to leader James Courtney.
Speaking at a Norton 360 autograph session at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne, Whincup says that Symmons Plains was a low point in the team’s year.
“Tassie was really tough and definitely one of our lowest moments for this year,” he said.
“We reassessed after Townsville and said that we really need a really clean run towards the end.
“Unfortunately last weekend, we made a silly error. It was a human error, and we didn’t put enough petrol in the car. We lost a good 100 points there.
“But forget that. We’ve got Sandown. We’ve got four races to go and we’re still in with a shot, and both Lowndesy and I will be going as hard as we can to get those points back.”
