Terry Wyhoon’s Image Racing will field Dragon Motor Racing’s two ex-GRM Holdens in next year’s Dunlop Series.

A stalwart of the second-tier, Wyhoon’s squad has run a part-program this season as it struggled to attract funding for its ageing ex-Stone Brothers Fords.

Dragon’s Tony Klein bought his two Holdens from Garry Rogers Motorsport in 2014 when the team switched to Volvo.

They sat dormant for two years before being run by GRM for James Golding and Richard Muscat in this year’s Dunlop Series.

Klein also had GRM build up a third Car of the Future chassis, which Wyhoon says may be completed and entered as a wildcard in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Wyhoon will campaign the ex-GRM cars in the Dunlop Series alongside a four-car Kumho V8 Touring Car Series program.

“After more than a decade of racing, forming the partnership with Dragon and having the entire operation under one roof makes pure racing sense, especially given the current economic climate and lack of commercial partners,” said Wyhoon.

“We started talks with (Dragon owner) Tony Klein back in May and we agreed there were strong benefits for both of us.

“By running a Kumho Series program as well as Dunlop Series cars the same spec as the vehicles that run in the main game, we’re well positioned to bring drivers through a development pathway and create career opportunities for them.

“Tony has some bold plans for 2018 and beyond, which we look forward to revealing in the near future, and we’re very excited to be part of these plans.”
